None of us can stop the march of time and stay young and youthful-looking forever. As we age, our skin cells begin to lose moisture and less collagen is produced in the dermis, which is responsible for the skin’s firmness. As a result, our skin will begin to sag and wrinkles will slowly appear.

To make matters worse, some of us combat with acne for years, leaving us with unsightly scars that are impossible to fade over time. At the same time, chickenpox infection may also result in deep scars on our face and skin.

Recent developments in laser technology now offer a long-lasting and scientifically proven method of restoring the natural beauty of your skin known as the Dynamis Resurfacing Laser, a safe and effective laser treatment for scars.

How does Laser Treatment for Scars Work?

Laser treatment for scars can work effectively to improve deep acne scars to a mild level. This laser treatment can minimize the scar’s appearance and improves collagen regeneration. The process of treatment involves the use of laser light that penetrates the skin to remove scar tissues and reduces its depth. Further, it works to remodel damaged tissues and stimulate collagen production to resurface the scars. The effect of laser treatment for acne scars is long lasting.

Procedures for Laser Treatments for Scars

Laser treatment for scar involves a step-by-step procedure and the use of laser equipment that emits a laser beam or light that goes deeper into the skin to remodel scar tissues.

  • The procedure of scar treatment starts with an assessment of scars to analyze the type, size, and depth of the scar.
  • The second step is for the doctor to determine the type of laser treatment that will be effective to improve scar appearance. Some common types of laser treatments for scar are fractional Erbium YAG laser, pulse-dye laser, fractional CO2 Laser and Nd: YAG Laser.
  • The third step involves passing laser light into the targeted area to treat the damaged skin by stimulating collagen production. It further works to remodel the scar tissue to make scars lighter and less noticeable.
  • The final step leads to post-treatment care in case of any side-effect like redness, itching, or sensitivity on the skin. You should let the doctor know if you are having any of these side effects.

Precautions to Expect After Laser Treatment for Scars

People having sensitive skin might get some side effects of laser scar treatment as redness, itching, swelling, etc. If you start seeing such symptoms, you should inform our doctor.

In general, the following steps should be taken after having laser treatment for scars:

  • Cleanse your skin with mild and gentle cleanser.
  • Apply generous amount of moisturizer after cleansing your skin. A well hydrated skin will recover much faster than a dehydrated one.
  • Avoid or at least minimize the sun exposure to the treated area. Apply sunblock with SPF 50 or above during daytime.
  • Do not peel the wound with your fingers. Doing so might affect the recovery of your skin and the results of the laser treatment for scars.

Which Types of Scars Can be treated by laser treatment?

There are various types of scars that can be improved through laser treatment for scars such as atrophic acne and chickenpox scars, burn scars, reddish scars and surgical scars. The appearance of these scars can be improved to a great extent under the hands of an experienced aesthetic physician.

What is Dynamis Resurfacing Laser?

Fotona SP Dynamics laser machine utilises fractional ablative Erbium:YAG laser technology to remove nearly all fine lines while significantly improving deeper and more dynamic wrinkles as well as smoothing out acne or chickenpox scars that have marred us for years. It is one of the most popular laser treatment for scars.

This result is achieved through the Dynamis Resurfacing Laser Treatment where laser beams gently vaporise micron-thin layers of the epidermis (the superficial layer of the skin). The laser can also thermally affect deeper skin layers (dermis) to stimulate the production of new collagen. The overall results make your skin not only look smoother and younger, but tighter and more supple as well.

Who should go for this treatment?

The Dynamis Resurfacing Laser Treatment is recommended for those with:

  • Acne/chickenpox scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Wrinkles & lines
  • Photo-damaged skin
  • Large pores

How many sessions are needed? How often?

Average 4 to 6 sessions of this laser treatment for scars, once every 3 to 5 weeks will be required for a satisfying result.

Is the treatment painful? Is it safe?

The Dynamis Resurfacing Laser Treatment is very comfortable after some numbing cream prior to the procedure and cryogen will be used to cool the skin during the treatment. It is safe for most skin types except very dark skin tone, where the risk of post-laser hyper/hypopigmentation is slightly higher.

Is there any downtime after the treatment?

There will be redness for 2 days after the treatment, followed by flaky and mild peeling of the skin for the next 3 to 5 days. Downtime can be shortened by using a gentle cleanser, a generous amount of moisturiser, and applying sunblock with SPF 50 or above during the daytime.

How soon can I see some result?

You will be able to see the result even after a single treatment. This will usually take up to 2 to 3 weeks after the treatment as your own collagen will start to regenerate.

What do I need to avoid before and after the treatment?

You should stop taking oral isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutane) for 6 months and Vitamin A creams for a month before the Dynamis Resurfacing Laser Treatment. It is very important to avoid the sun 2 weeks before and after the treatment. You should also follow the post-treatment protocol carefully, which will be provided after the treatment.

For improvement of dimpled scars, there are 2 alternative treatment options available: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Rejuran Healer PDRN. For optimal results, these treatments may be combined, as in our Smooth & Radiant Program.
