Laser Hair Removal

hair 1Almost our entire body is covered with hair. Most of it is fine and pale, however, we almost all have unsightly darker, coarse hair in places we wouldn’t want or expect. It may be a question of aesthetics or hygiene. In any case, this excess body hair (or facial hair) is often considered as embarrassing and bothersome, especially in places like legs, bikini line, neck, arms, underarms, chest and back.

No one really wants to have more discomfort, ingrown hair and irritated or infected skin, which is the usual consequence of shaving, plucking, waxing…and it has to be repeated over and over again. Therefore, laser hair removal if becoming more and more mainstream with women as well as men; it is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in practices all over the world.

Laser hair removal is a much faster and more efficient procedure than most other possible treatments, namely Intense pulsed light (IPL) and electrolysis hair removal.

How does it work?

Laser light targets hair follicles and eliminates or significantly impedes hair from growing back. The deep penetration of Nd:YAG laser from Fotona SP Dynamis ensures it reaches even the deepest follicles, while its low absorption in all skin types makes sure the surrounding tissue is preserved. However, darker skin types have a higher risk of developing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation after the treatment.

Is the procedure painful?

It is not painful, but some may experience minor discomfort while treating on certain sensitive areas. Numbing cream will be applied prior to the procedure and cooling air will be applied simultaneously with the laser to ensure the comfort of the patients.

How many sessions do I need for laser hair removal?

As hair grows in cycles and not all of body hair is in the same stages at a time, it takes a few treatments for complete removal. The outcome also depends on hair quality, number of hair follicles, different metabolism and hormonal level of each individual, but it usually takes about 4 to 6 sessions to remove all the hair.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen for a few hours or less. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair.Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
